SJEC hosts workshop on Faculty Mentorship Excellence

Mangaluru: The Student Welfare Group, in association with the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering from St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), organised a 2-day workshop on Faculty Mentorship Excellence: From Insight to Implementation with the professionals of Christ Consulting, Bengaluru, on 23 & 24 January 2025.

The inaugural ceremony commenced in Kalam auditorium with the traditional lighting of the lamp, a symbolic gesture representing the illumination of knowledge and the nurturing of values. Ms Preetha Aroza, Campus counsellor at SJEC and convener of the program, extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries and participants for a productive and inspiring event. Dr. Rio D’Souza, the Principal of SJEC, was the Guest of Honour for the program. He emphasized how, amidst modern educational techniques, the dimension to identify the human angle of the students while mentoring to enhance the learning experience becomes need of the day.

Ms Anamika Viswanathan, Head of Christ Consulting, was the chief guest of the program. She articulated the objectives and the importance of mentoring exercises to the students by highlighting the significance of training the faculty for the same. She appreciated the participants stating that they are chosen as the pillars in the edifice of mentoring and counseling. She even stated that since the students’ problems are emanating from a personal angle, it is important to catch these red flags early. In this respect, it is important to develop a peer mentoring system that enables the unleashing of mutually beneficial relationships.

Rev. Fr. Kenneth Rayner Crasta, Assistant Director, SJEC, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he emphasized the essential role that educators play in adopting mentoring exercises to foster an environment that encourages continuous improvement and excellence of the students. He stated that in this direction the present workshop is going to address the gap existing in the present system.

Dean- Student Welfare, Dr Ramananda H.S. along with the HOD’s and around 50 faculty participants also graced the event, adding their valuable presence to the occasion and supporting the program’s goals. This diverse representation highlighted a collective commitment to advancing   supportive systems like mentoring which compliment educational outcomes. The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms Savitha J, Assistant Professor and the co- convenor of the workshop.  She expressed profound gratitude to all the dignitaries for their inspirational contributions, to the participants for their enthusiastic engagement, and to the organizers for their meticulous efforts. The vote of thanks encapsulated the program’s core message of Faculty Mentorship Excellence: From Insight to Implementation aiming to be successful in contemporary transformative education.
