Science Forum Activities Inaugurated at St Philomena Autonomous College

Puttur, 30 Nov. 2024: The Science Forum of St Philomena College (Autonomous) inaugurated its activities for the academic year 2024-25 at the PG Seminar Hall of the College. Science Forum provides a platform dedicated to nurturing young minds towards innovative thinking.

Presiding over the program, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro delivered an inspiring speech urging students to cultivate a scientific temper. Acknowledging the creative and inventive abilities of science students, he encouraged them to fully utilize the Science Forum and the resources available through the incubation centre. “By embracing these opportunities, students can unlock their potential and make valuable contributions to the field of science,” he said, calling on them to approach their pursuits with passion and dedication.

The resource person, Dr Sanjay S.S., Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry at SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire, emphasized the importance of research and innovation. Addressing the students, he urged the youth to channel their enthusiasm and energy toward research-driven academic growth, stating, “Youngsters must leverage their agility to propel the nation forward, engaging in research and participating passionately in academic activities.”

Dr Sanjay delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the importance of scientific communication, providing the audience with a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Dr Malini K, Dean of Science, Dr Chandrashekar, Head of the Department of Physics, Mrs Shashiprabha and Ms Shreeraksha B.V., Heads of Botany and Zoology respectively; Ms Tanuja, Head of the Department of Mathmatics; and Assistant Professors Mrs Smitha Vivek and Ms Rakshitha Shetty were present on the occasion. Around 100 students actively participated in the program.

Akhila and her group rendered prayer. Shreedevi, President of the Science Forum, extended a warm welcome, followed by Shivani Machayya introducing the resource person. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ashlesh, Secretary of the Science Forum. Rhea D’Souza compered.
