Promoting Dignity and Equality: Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit Distributes School Uniforms at St Lawrence Kannada Medium School
Mangaluru, June 9, 2025 – In a heartwarming initiative that highlighted the values of dignity and equality in education, the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh® – Bondel Unit organized a school uniform distribution programme at St Lawrence Kannada Medium School, Bondel. Held in the school hall at 9:00 AM, the event began on a solemn and hopeful note with a prayer song by the students.
Mr Sujay D’Silva, President of the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit, welcomed the dignitaries and attendees with warmth and gratitude. In a thoughtful and eco-conscious gesture, the guests were greeted with flower saplings — symbols of growth, sustainability, and care for the environment.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Mr James Cutinha, Block Education Officer (BEO); Mr Walter Nandalike, CEO of Daijiworld.com; Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish Priest of Bondel and Director of Catholic Sabha; Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves, Principal of St Lawrence English Medium School; Rev. Addressing the students, Mr Walter Nandalike shared an inspiring message, urging them to value education, accept support humbly, and aim high. He emphasized that Kannada medium students are equally capable of achieving great success, noting that even prestigious exams like the UPSC can be taken in Kannada. Encouraging students to aspire for government jobs, he reminded them of the importance of respecting teachers. “Today you stand and greet your teachers. Tomorrow, when you rise in life, your teachers will honour you,” he said, calling on students to dream big and serve society with gratitude and dedication.
Mr James Cutinha, BEO, applauded the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit for their generous act, noting that meaningful contributions often come from those with modest means. He encouraged students to cherish the support they receive and take their studies seriously. Drawing a powerful analogy, he said, “Donors are like pencils — they help shape your future and give you the chance to learn, grow, and improve.” He also tied the initiative to World Environment Day, urging everyone to keep their surroundings green and clean.
Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza congratulated the Catholic Sabha for their noble work and praised the gesture of former students giving back to their alma mater. He said that such initiatives not only support education but also foster unity and a spirit of service. He reminded the students that education is the key to a better future and encouraged them to uphold the values of gratitude and compassion.
During the event, school uniforms were distributed to 172 students from 3rd to 7th standard. The Chief Guest, along with Mr James Cutinha and Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, personally handed over the uniforms to the school authorities.
Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves took the opportunity to felicitate former Headmaster Mr Denis Neri D’Souza with a sapling, in appreciation of his dedicated service to the school. He also presented roses to each donor as a token of gratitude for their support. In return, the Catholic Sabha members were honoured by the school with a sapling, presented by Headmistress Mrs Helen Mary Fernandes, as a gesture of appreciation for their generous initiative.
Teacher Lavina presented a brief report on the school’s progress, while Headmistress Mrs Helen delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Mr Wilfred Alvares and concluded with the National Anthem. Snacks were served to all attendees, including students and parents, making the event both meaningful and memorable.
This generous act by the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit stood as a testament to their commitment to education, community service, and environmental consciousness — a true example of compassion in action.
