National Pathology Day 2025 celebrated at Father Muller Medical College

Mangaluru: The Department of Pathology, Father Muller Medical College, celebrated National Pathology Day on 12th April 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Vasant Ramji Khanolkar, a pioneering Indian pathologist revered as the Father of Pathology and Medical Research in India.

The celebration witnessed the participation of 120 attendees, including faculty, laboratory technicians, postgraduate students, and support staff from the department. The event highlighted the vital role of pathology in medical science and engaged students and faculty from various disciplines through creative and collaborative competitions.

Program Highlights

The event commenced with an invocation, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Umashankar T, Organizing Chairperson and Head of the Department of Pathology.

This was followed by an insightful introduction by Dr. Chandni Bhandary P, Organizing Secretary and Assistant Professor, who shared the history and significance of National Pathology Day.

A unique segment titled ‘A Glimpse Through the Lens’ marked the inauguration with a symbolic gesture involving a microscope and a projection of microscopic images.

The guest speaker, Dr. Sudeep K., Professor in the Department of Endocrinology, delivered a compelling talk on the interdisciplinary relevance of pathology in clinical diagnosis. He emphasized the critical importance of laboratory medicine in routine medical practice.

Competitions and Participation

To foster engagement and creativity, a series of competitions were conducted, including:

  • Reel Making
  • Model Making
  • Photography

These events saw enthusiastic participation from students, staff, and faculty across multiple departments, showcasing talent, knowledge, and collaborative spirit.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Sueallen Lorna D’Souza, Treasurer and Senior Resident in the Department of Pathology, followed by the rendition of the institutional anthem.

(For MBBS Students)

  • 🥈 2nd Prize: Vian Jovan D’Souza, Melina D’Souza, Halson Fernandes, V. Arjun Navada, Shreya Sony, and Zara Zainab
