Mount Carmel Central School Hosts Orientation Programme for Parents and Students of Grades VI–X

Mangaluru: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, ushered in the new academic year with enriching Orientation Programmes for Grades VI–VIII on June 13 and for Grades IX and X on June 14, 2025. Both events, held in the school auditorium, welcomed students and parents, offering insights into the dynamic academic and co-curricular journey that lies ahead.

Orientation for Grades VI–VIII

The programme for Grades VI to VIII began with a warm introduction by the MC, Tr. Prathiksha, setting the tone for a meaningful morning. A soulful prayer led by the school choir was followed by a vibrant welcome dance performed by the students, highlighting the school’s harmonious blend of academics and extracurricular activities.

Principal Sr. Melissa extended a heartfelt welcome to the Chief Guest, students, and parents. Vice Principal Sr. Teena presented a flower sapling to the keynote speaker, Dr. Roshan Fernandes, Professor and Head of the Department of Cyber Security at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte (Deemed to be University), symbolizing growth and appreciation.

In her address, Sr. Melissa reaffirmed the school’s mission to provide a nurturing, holistic, and future-focused educational environment—one that fosters both academic excellence and the overall development of each child.

Dr. Roshan Fernandes delivered an insightful session on Cyber Safety and Security, emphasizing the growing importance of digital literacy. He discussed key topics including cyber fraud, screen time, and the impact of online gaming. His practical advice empowered both parents and students to navigate the digital world more responsibly.

Following this, general school guidelines were shared by Tr. Leena, and faculty members provided subject-wise presentations. Tr. Jyotsna offered a clear overview of the CBSE Assessment System, helping parents understand the academic structure and expectations. An interactive session encouraged questions and feedback, reflecting the school’s commitment to openness and collaboration.

In her concluding message, Principal Sr. Melissa urged parents to monitor mobile usage and screen time at home, emphasizing their role in guiding children toward responsible digital behavior.

The programme ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Tr. Preema, who acknowledged the contributions of the guest speaker, parents, and school staff.

Orientation for Grades IX and X

The programme for Grades IX and X, held on June 14, began with a thought-provoking quote shared by MC Sr. Juliana Furtado:
“Behind every young child who believes in themselves is a parent who believed first.”
This sentiment set the tone for an event centered on shared responsibility between school and home in shaping student growth.

A heartfelt prayer and a graceful welcome dance symbolizing unity and joy were followed by the welcome address from Principal Sr. Melissa, who greeted the gathering and introduced the keynote speaker, Madam Geetha Kulkarni, ACP, CCRB, Mangalore City. Tr. Sylvia Fernandes, Secondary Section Coordinator, offered a floral tribute to the esteemed guest.

Madam Geetha Kulkarni delivered a compelling session on Cybercrime and the Influence of Social Media, providing parents with crucial insights into today’s digital challenges. Her practical guidance empowered them to better protect and support their children in an increasingly digital environment. Her talk left a lasting impact on everyone present.

This was followed by an academic session where subject teachers explained the CBSE academic framework, board evaluation patterns, and practical ways for parents to support learning at home. The session was well-received for its clarity and relevance.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tr. Priyanka, who expressed gratitude to the management, the guest speaker, parents, staff, and students for their wholehearted participation and support.

A brief interactive session allowed parents to ask questions regarding the CBSE curriculum and evaluation. Subject teachers remained available for individual discussions, ensuring personal concerns were addressed.
