Mount Carmel Central School celebrates the Season of Creation with Vibrant Performances

September 5, 2024

Mangaluru: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, hosted a heartwarming celebration of the ‘Season of Creation’, featuring a series of engaging and thought-provoking performances. Held in the school’s auditorium on September 3rd with chief guest Dr Sr Doris DSouza A.C., former principal of Patna Women’s College, Bihar, the event was a beautiful blend of prayer, dance, music, and drama, all centered on the theme of caring for our common home, Mother Earth.

The celebration began with the soothing sounds of nature, setting a serene tone for the proceedings. The audience was warmly welcomed, and the significance of the Season of Creation was emphasized as a time “to reflect, cherish, and care for the beautiful gift we have been blessed with.”.

The programme commenced with a solemn prayer service, where both students and attendees connected spiritually with the Creator and the creation. This was followed by a captivating classical peacock dance, symbolizing the vibrant colours and joyous spirit of creation. A heartfelt welcome was extended by Tiara Gonsalves, Shaunna Dsa, and Albert Jais as Principal Sr Melissa presented the chief guest, Dr Sr Doris Dsouza A.C., with a flower sapling as a token of appreciation for her presence.

The event was formally inaugurated with the unveiling of a coconut flower by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. Dharmik Krishna, Royner Cutinho, and Glen Rodrigues elaborated on the day’s significance and outlined the school’s ten-point action plan for the month-long observance of this season.

The programme continued with performances that highlighted the interconnectedness of all living things and the urgent need for environmental protection. A standout feature was a fusion dance representing the five elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space—where dancers elegantly embodied the essence of each element.

A poignant mime performance vividly illustrated the impact of global warming and climate change, serving as a powerful call to action for the audience. This was followed by a soulful group song, ‘Water Anthem,’ which celebrated water as the essence of life. The dance drama ‘Save Trees, Save Life’ further underscored the vital relationship between trees and all living beings.

As the event drew to a close, the school choir performed ‘We Are the World,’ expressing gratitude for the natural world and acknowledging the efforts of all those involved in the celebration. The Chief Guest, Dr Sr Doris commended the students, teachers, and school management for their remarkable efforts. She presented a video highlighting the role of humans in environmental degradation and emphasized the need for conservation. She urged students to adopt ten steps to protect the creation and encouraged them to be like the leaf, responsible for the welfare of the plant. Her speech also included a call to leave behind a positive legacy and to cultivate a sense of wonder at the natural world’s intricacies.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Neola Acquina Pinto. Principal Sr Melissa congratulated the students of grades VIII B and C, along with their mentors, for presenting a meaningful programme. The event was skillfully compeered by Naman, Shaunna DSa, Salvina Crasta, Sherwin Patrao, Ciana Menezes, and Tanishq Shetty.

The inaugural and celebration of Season of Creation 2024 at Mount Carmel Central School was not only a tribute to nature but also a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and nurture the creation for future generations.
