Mangaluru: Annual Feast of Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte from January 14 to 16

Mangaluru: The annual feast of Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, will be celebrated from January 14 to 16, Fr Wilfred Rodrigues, superior, St Joseph’s Monastery has said. 


Addressing media here on Friday, January 3, Fr Wilfred Rodrigues said, “The formal inauguration of the festivity will be held on January 4 with the votive offering procession beginning at Jayashree Gate followed by flag hoisting. Rector of St Aloysius institutions, Fr Dionysius Vaz and Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyasa Kamath will take part in the inaugural function. 

“There will be nine days of novena starting from January 5 to 13, during which we have nine masses every day. The Mass on January 14 will be presided over by Dr William D’Souza, archbishop of Patna and bishop of Mangaluru Dr Peter Paul Saldanha for the evening Mass. The mass on January 15 will be presided over by bishop of Sindhdurg Dr Anthony Allwyn Baretto and archbishop emeritus of Bengaluru Dr Bernard Moras for the evening Mass. The festal Mass on January 16 will be presided by bishop of Bellary Dr Henry D’Souza and vicar general of Mangaluru Fr Maxim Noronha for the evening Mass. 


“A blood donation camp is being organized at the shrine campus on January 9 from 9am to 1pm in collaboration with Fr Muller Medical College,” he said. 


Programme in detail 

Festal Celebration:The Festal Mass on Jan 14at 10.30am will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. William D Souza, SJ, Arch Bishop of Patna and at 6.00pm will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore. 

The Festal Mass on Jan 15 at 10.30am will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Antony Alwyn Baretto, Bishop of Sindhdurg and at 6.00pm will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, Arch Bishop Emeritus of Bangalore. 


The Festal Mass on Jan 16 at 10.30am will be presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Henry D Souza, Bishop of Bellary and at 6.00pm will be presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Maxim Noronha, Vicar General of Mangalore. 


There will be Masses all through the day too on 14 Jan. Mass in Konkani will be celebrated at 6.00 am, 7.30am in English, 9.00 am in Konkani and 12.30am in Kannada. Mass for the sick and the aged will be celebrated at 10.30 am in Konkani. The Festal Mass on the Second day (Jan 15): 6.00am, 7.15am, 8.30am in Konkani; 10.30- Mass for the Children & 12.30 in Malayalam. The Festal Mass on the Third day (Jan 16): 6.00am in Konkani, 7.30am in English, 9.00 am in Konkani, 12.30 in Konkani and 6.00pm Mass in Konkani followed by procession of the Blessed Sacrament. 


Formal Inauguration: The formal inauguration of the festivity will be held on Jan 4, 2020 at 5.30pm with the votive offering procession beginning at Jayashree Gate followed by flag hoisting. 


Nine Days Novena: In preparation for the Annual Feast, nine days Novena Prayers are held from Jan 5 to Jan 13 during which we have 9 Masses every day. Masses are as follows: In morning at 6.00, 7.30, 9.00 and 10.30 in Konkani; At noon 1 pm in Konkani; In the evening at 4.00 in Malayalam, 5.00 in English and 7.00 in Kannada. The main mass at 6.00pm will be celebrated in Konkani in the open air. 


Blood Donation Camp: Blood Donation camp is being organized at the shrine campus on Jan 9, Thursday from 9.00am to 1.00pm in collaboration with Fr. Mullers Medical College, Hospital. 


Anna Santarpane: The meal will be served to the devotees on all the days of novena and feast.
