Lourdes Central School Observes International Yoga Day

June 24, 2025

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” – The Bhagavad Gita

Mangaluru: On the serene morning of 21st June 2025, Lourdes Central School celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day with solemnity, splendour, and a spirit of unity across both the Primary and Secondary Sections. Aligned with the global theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the event served as a powerful reminder of our intrinsic connection to nature and the significance of inner harmony in nurturing global well-being.

Primary Section Highlights

The young Lourdites of Class 2 inaugurated the celebration with energy and grace. Their Yoga Dance performance, blending fluid movements with mindful expression, captivated the audience and conveyed a powerful message of wellness through simplicity. This performance, coordinated by Ms Anita Pinto and Ms Thriveni Poojarthi, was a delightful confluence of discipline and innocence.

The event was graced by Ms Meghana Kashap, who served as the Chief Guest. In her inspiring address, she translated the essence of yoga into terms easily understood by the young students, encouraging them to embrace the practice in their daily lives.

The dignitaries present included Vice Principal Ms Anita Thomas and Academic Coordinator Ms Shanthi Menezes. The welcome address and introduction of the guest were given by Ms Anita Pinto, while the programme was smoothly anchored by students under the mentorship of Ms Lisa Peris. The vote of thanks was delivered by students guided by Ms Shanthi Menezes. Moments from the celebration were beautifully captured through digital reels curated by Ms Marula Gibson, preserving the spirit of the occasion.

Secondary Section Highlights

Simultaneously, the Secondary Section hosted its celebration in the rooftop auditorium, transformed into a serene yoga sanctum. Students of Classes 8 A and B led the event with a programme that was both reflective and radiant. The celebration began with the lighting of the lamp and a soulful prayer song, followed by a warm welcome from Karthik of Class 8B, who also introduced the Chief Guest, Ms Vidhyashreer.

Tanishka Singh of Class 8B eloquently explained the significance of the day, setting the tone for a mesmerizing Dance Drama. Interlacing storytelling, rhythm, and yogic philosophy, the performance underscored yoga’s timeless values—unity, strength, and peace.

Rev. Fr Johnson Sequeira, the Principal, in his address, reminded the gathering that yoga is not just a one-day ritual but a way of life that fosters mental clarity and physical well-being. He commended both students and staff for their dedication in organizing such a meaningful celebration.

The session was further enriched by a practical yoga demonstration, led by the resource person, who guided students through asanas, breathing techniques, and the meditative disciplines of mauna (silence), pranayama (breath control), and dhyana (meditation). Her insights gently emphasized the role of self-awareness and discipline in everyday life.

The event was seamlessly anchored by Krupa Somanna of Class 8B, whose confidence and composure added finesse to the proceedings.

The dual celebrations were not merely observances of a global event but a testament to Lourdes Central School’s unwavering commitment to holistic education. The day’s events resonated with the timeless message of yoga—balance, awareness, and compassion—urging every student to carry this ethos forward in life.
