Father Muller Medical College Hosts Scintilla-10 – National Level Intercollegiate Quiz In Biochemistry
Mangaluru: The Department of Biochemistry, Father Muller Medical College (FMMC), organized a national-level quiz in Biochemistry for I MBBS students on 24th May 2025. This marks the 10th edition of the event titled Scintilla.
Scintilla-10 was inaugurated by Dr. Vivian D’Souza, Professor of Biochemistry at Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences. A senior educator with over three decades of teaching experience at KMC Mangalore and a decade at Kanachur Institute, Dr. Vivian had also inaugurated the 1st and 9th editions of Scintilla. In his address, he appreciated the manner in which the quiz was conducted, commending the Team Biochemistry of FMMC for their meticulous planning, teamwork, and the high standard of questions posed.
The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI. He congratulated the Biochemistry team for the successful conduct of Scintilla and for establishing it as a national-level brand of FMMC.

















Also present on the dais during the inaugural ceremony were Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, the designate Director of FMCI; Dr. Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean of FMMC; Dr. Maitreyee D.S., Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry; and Dr. Shivashankara A.R., Professor of Biochemistry and Organizing Secretary. Members of the management committee, heads and faculty of various departments at FMMC, biochemistry faculty from other institutions, and students attended the inaugural event.
A total of 54 teams from across India participated in the quiz. After the preliminary round, 12 teams qualified for the semifinals, from which 6 teams advanced to the finals. The quiz included a variety of rounds such as multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks, sequencing, visuals, answer-with-hints, rapid fire, storytelling, case-based questions, and more.
Ultimately, the team from AIIMS Mangalagiri emerged as the champions of Scintilla-10, while Bellary Medical College and FMMC secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
