Father Muller Endoscopy Department Honoured as Centre of Excellence for Patient Safety
Mangaluru: The Department of Endoscopy at Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH), in collaboration with the Quality Department, has been awarded the prestigious Centre of Excellence recognition after its successful participation in the “Endoscopy Safety Program” conducted by CAHO (Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations) in association with ASP (Advanced Sterilization Products).
The initiative culminated in a state-of-the-art audit aimed at transforming patient safety in endoscopy through:
- Setting new standards for safe endoscopy,
- Benchmarking facility performance,
- Gaining actionable insights to enhance and sustain practices, and
- Ensuring compliance with national and international guidelines and accreditation requirements.


The department demonstrated excellence by achieving over 70% compliance across multiple critical areas including:
- Endoscopy facility design, layout, and safety
- Patient safety and care
- Reprocessing and sterilization
- Training and awareness
- Infection control
- Quality assurance and patient safety
The onsite audit was conducted on March 11, 2025, by Dr. Archana B. R., Professor of Microbiology, Rajarajeswari Medical College, Bengaluru. The Centre of Excellence Certificate was formally awarded during Day 2 of CAHOCON, held on April 13, 2025, in celebration of EndoSafe learnings, contributions, and hospital achievements. The certificate holds a validity of two years from the date of issue.
Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator of FMMCH, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Endoscopy Team, stating, “FMMCH strives to offer the best possible care, reaching even the poorest of the poor, with no compromise on quality—a mission mandated by Jesus Christ.”
Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, and Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director Designate, also conveyed their joy and appreciation to the department for this remarkable achievement.
