Dr Prasanna Rai, HoD of Botany of St Philomena College attains Superannuation

Puttur: The HoD of Botany, St Philomena College Puttur Dr Prasanna Rai K attains superannuation on May 30, 2020 after completing 30 years of dedicated and fruitful service. He began his teaching profession in Vivekananda College Puttur during 1988-89. Later he joined St Philomena College on November 13, 1991 and served more than three decades in different capacities.

Dr Prasanna Rai, son of Nadoja Kayyara Kinhanna Rai, had his early education in Badiadka Government Primary School, High School education in Navajeevana High School Perdala, PU education in MGM College Udupi, graduation in St Philomena College Puttur and post graduation in Mangalore University. He obtained his doctorate degree for thesis on ‘Studies on Marine Fungi from the West Coast of India’ in the year 1999.

He has authored 11 research papers which were published in various national and international journals. He has successfully guided two M.Phil research students. As a secretary of Kannada Cultural Association of Kavitha Kuteera Perdala, he brought out 18 books relating to Dr Kayyara Kinhanna Rai.

He served as a member of Board of Studies and Board of Examinations of Mangalore University and various Autonomous Colleges affiliated to Mangalore University. He also delivered several radio talks at AIR Mangalore.

Dr Prasanna Rai was instrumental in organizing several workshops, seminars and conferences in the college. Two Days National Seminar on the topic ‘World Heritage Tag for Western Ghats’ was well appreciated by all the delegates and the researchers. He participated as a speaker in International Conference on ‘China Biodiesel 2008’ held at Beijing, China on February 27-28, 2008.

He was very actively involved in Alumni Association of the College and Rotary Club Puttur East. At present, he has been discharging his duty as the President of ‘VANASHREE’ – Association of Botany Teachers of Mangalore University.

Dr Prasanna Rai is well known for his multifarious personality. As a Director of Performing Arts Association of the College, he has trained the students in the field of music, drama and other arts. As a singer, he has rendered a song in the Kannada Bhavageetha Album.

His better half Mrs. Jyothi P Rai has been serving as the Lecturer in Economics in GFGC Puttur. His son Mr Vijeth Rai, alumnus of St Philomena Educational institutions, is an Engineering Graduate.
