Diocese of Mangalore in association with CODP disburses scholarships for 91 poor and needy students
MANGALORE, SEPT 15: In a formal felicitation programme, Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore awarded scholarship for high school, college and PG studies to the 91 deserving students of the society at Bishop’s House, Mangalore on September 15, 2021.
The application for scholarships were collected by Canara Organization for Development & Peace (CODP) and the funds were disbursed by the Diocese of Mangalore.
Welcoming the guests, Rev. Fr Vincent D’Souza, Director CODP-ISD and Secretary, Commission for Social Development delivered his introductory remarks. Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha handed over the scholarship cheques to the poor and deserving students to pursue their education.
“Without education life would be miserable. Education does contribute a lot towards both a progressive society and also towards an individual’s personal development. The enlightenment that education brings in and around us will help us to build a healthy and progressive society,” said Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha. The diocese of Mangalore has contributed a lot to the society through education, health and other development programmes, the bishop added.
Msgr Very Rev. Maxim Noronha, Vicar General Rev. Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, Diocesan Procurator, Mr Roy Castelino, Diocesan PRO were present among the many. Rev. Fr Vincent D’Souza compered the programme.
