Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha Celebrates Maundy Thursday at Rosario Cathedral
Mangaluru, April 17, 2025:Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore, solemnly presided over the Maundy Thursday celebration at Our Lady of Rosario Cathedral, Mangalore, on April 17, 2025, at 6:00 PM.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood, was marked by a profound gesture of humility as the bishop washed the feet of 12 faithful representing the disciples of Jesus. This symbolic act reflects Christ’s commandment of love and service, reminding the faithful of the true spirit of Christian discipleship.

In his homily, Bishop Peter Paul reflected on the significance of Maundy Thursday, emphasizing the call to live a life of service, forgiveness, and communion. “The washing of feet is not just a ritual but a reminder that we are called to serve one another with humility and love, just as Jesus did,” he said.
The liturgy marked the beginning of the Sacred Paschal Triduum, the most solemn and sacred days in the Church’s liturgical calendar, leading to Good Friday and culminating in the Easter Vigil.
A large number of faithful participated in the solemn Eucharistic celebration with devotion. At the end of the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament was transferred in procession to the Altar of Repose for silent adoration, signifying the beginning of Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.
