A Spirit-Filled Retreat: ‘Journey of Grace’ Hosted by Catholic Sabha – Mangalore City Varado at Bondel
Mangaluru, April 6, 2025: In a moving celebration of faith, fellowship, and renewal, the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit and Mangalore City Varado jointly hosted a spiritual retreat titled “Journey of Grace” at St Lawrence Church and Shrine, Bondel. The four-hour retreat, held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., drew a large gathering of faithful from across the region.
The evening commenced with an uplifting session of praise and worship, led by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish Priest of Bondel, and choir master Br John, whose music set a deeply spiritual tone. This was followed by a solemn Way of the Cross, prayerfully led by members of the City Varado, inviting participants to reflect on Christ’s suffering and love.







The retreat was led by Rev. Fr Sunil Praveen Pinto, Parish Priest of St. Paul Church, Delanthabettu. His spiritual guidance brought moments of deep reflection and renewal to the faithful. The highlight of the evening was the Eucharistic Celebration at 6:00 p.m., presided over by Fr Sunil, who delivered a powerful homily centered on grace and spiritual renewal, especially in light of the Jubilee Year.
Following the Mass, the congregation participated in a soul-stirring Eucharistic Adoration, which offered a moment of divine connection, leaving hearts filled with peace, gratitude, and a sense of spiritual awakening.
The retreat witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Catholic Sabha City Varado, who turned out in large numbers, reinforcing the community’s unity and devotion.
In his heartfelt vote of thanks, Mr Wilfred Alvares expressed deep gratitude to all who contributed to the retreat’s success. He acknowledged Rev. Fr Sunil for leading the retreat with spiritual fervor and thanked Rev. Fr Andrew for his unwavering support. He also extended his appreciation to Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, Parish Priest of Angelore, and Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves, Principal of St Lawrence English Medium School, for their gracious presence and encouragement.











Special thanks were offered to Br John and the choir team for their uplifting music, as well as to the Media Committee, especially Alrick D’Silva and Jason Fernandes, for beautifully capturing the retreat’s essence. Gratitude was also extended to the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit, with particular mention of Mr Stephen D’Silva, Unit President, and Mr Sujay D’Silva, President Elect, for their tireless efforts in organizing the event.
Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, in his brief address, reminded the gathering, “Our journey is obtained by the grace of God,” and commended the Catholic Sabha for their dedication to faith-based service.
The retreat concluded with a community prayer and Angelus led by Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, followed by a fellowship meal, where participants shared food and warmth like one united family.
The Journey of Grace retreat proved to be a spiritually enriching experience, marking yet another milestone in the Catholic Sabha’s ongoing mission to deepen faith and unity within the community.
