Mangalore, 29 March 2018: Maundy Thursday a day to commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist by Jesus Christ was observed with great devotion in Mangalore Diocese.
In Milagres Church, the Eucharistic Mass was offered by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr Valerian D'Souza along with other priests. Fr. Maxy D'Souza in his homily explained the significance of Maundy Thursday and urged the devotees to serve and sacrifice for others in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
Later Fr. Valerian washed the feet of 12 people signifying the act of humility which Jesus had performed by washing the feet of his disciples.
The Christ’s agony in the Garden of Gethsemane was also commemorated through a vigil led by Fr. Edwin Monis - Asst. Parish Priest which will last till the commencement of the Good Friday services.
Maundy Thursday is followed by Good Friday, Holy Saturday signifying the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.
