Mangaluru, Jan 17: The titular feast of St Joseph Vaz Church, Mudipu, was held in grandeur and devotion on Thursday, January 16.
The solemn thanksgiving Mass began at 10.30 am presided over by Fr Dr John Baptist Saldanha, parish priest of St Sebastian Church, Permannur and dean of St Joseph Vaz (Mangaluru South) deanery. About 25 priests from the deanery and also guest priests concelebrated in the solemn Eucharistic celebration.
In his homily, Fr Saldanha beautifully dealt on the theme ‘St Joseph Vaz an inspiration to life and good living’. As this year in Mangaluru diocese is dedicated to “Respecting life and protecting it’, Fr Saldanha said, “Life is a gift from God and we need to respect it at any cost. Moreover, we need to learn from St Joseph Vaz how to be patient, kind, loving and merciful towards others,”
Fr Benjamin Pinto, parish priest, thanked the clergy, religious and the entire parish community for their goodwill and generosity. Liturgy was conducted by the Parish Pastoral Parishad. The melodious choir helped the congregation to pray.
Fr Shaun Rodrigues, assistant parish priest, Naveen D’Souza, vice president and Irene Veigas, secretary, were present. Parishioners, relatives and guests participated actively in the liturgy.
